Microneedling vs Microchanneling

Microneedling vs Microchanneling: What’s the Difference?

Both microneedling and microchanneling improve skin texture, reduce scarring, and boost collagen. But they work differently — and the right choice depends on your skin goals.

At SilkenTouch Aesthetics in Cambridge, we offer both TWIST Microneedling and Procell Microchanneling. Here’s how to tell them apart.

How Microneedling Works

Microneedling (also called collagen induction therapy) uses a pen-like device with tiny needles that glide or stamp across the skin. The needles create controlled micro-injuries in the deeper layers of the dermis.

These micro-injuries trigger the skin’s natural healing response — increasing collagen and elastin production over time. The result: firmer, smoother skin with reduced scarring and fewer fine lines.

Best for: Acne scars, deep pigmentation, stretch marks, significant skin texture issues, visible signs of ageing.

How Microchanneling Works

Microchanneling uses a precision stamping device (like Procell) with wire-based filaments that enter and exit the skin in a clean vertical motion. Instead of dragging across skin, it stamps uniformly.

This creates consistent, evenly spaced micro-channels that are shallower than microneedling. These channels are ideal for delivering potent serums — like stem cells, peptides, and growth factors — deep into the skin for maximum absorption.

Best for: Skin hydration, brightness, fine lines, mild texture issues, sensitive skin, clients who want minimal downtime.
